Cobalt, one of the most beautiful and meaningful colors around today, instantly recalls vivid imagery of the sky, ocean, art, architecture and more. From Santorini’s Cycladic architecture (the gorgeous white-painted villages that perch on the island’s cliffs) topped with the cobalt-blue painted domes recognized around the world, to the late French artist Yves Klein’s frequent use of a deep cobalt color in his work—which he dubbed the International Klein Blue—there is no shortage of love for this brilliant hue.

When we unveiled Cobalt in 2018 as the new addition to our Build Your True program of custom finishes and hardware, we were thrilled to experience such a wonderful reaction. Today, we thought we’d put together some of our favorite finds to match our large repertoire of full-sized, and indoor/outdoor undercounter Cobalt blue appliances. Because, is there ever truly enough of that calming hue in our lives? The world of home and fashion design doesn’t seem to think so. In January of 2019, Iris van Herpen presented her Shift Souls couture collection—debuting a celestially-inspired cobalt blue dress fit for a mythical creature. Pair it with David Yurman’s Solari Pendant Necklace with diamonds and Lapis Azuli, and it’s a match made in heaven.

Later on in the year, Holiday House Hamptons invited designers to transform a stunning estate on the east end of Long Island, where designers weaved in the color left and right. Interior Designer Barbara Ostrom added perfectly placed pops of cobalt blue to her design of a cozy, yet fun theater room while Root Cellar Designs outfitted a powder room in their enticing blue-and-white wallpaper—both to great effect.

It’s a color that can instill various moods into a room. Take Shumacher’s V-Step Cobalt wallpaper, a bold graphic print that would an element of fun to any design. Into drama? Design an entire room in wall tiles from Atlas Concorde’s Marvel Dream collection—this particular ultramarine color imbues the space with an otherworldly, dream-like quality.

Since we equate cobalt with a deep calming effect, we thought we’d also dive into day beds, or at least one particular daybed. KGBL’s Aragon Chaise, shown in a vibrant blue velvet wool seat with an ebonized walnut base, equals pure luxury. That kind of decadent repose also calls for the unmistakable allure of cocktail hour—Waterford Crystal-style. Waterford’s pair of Lismore Pops Cobalt Toasting Crystal Flutes add a festive appeal to any space with their jubilant color and perfectly cut crystal. And so you don’t go overboard on cocktail hour, we’re highlighting Audemar’s Piguet’s striking blue smoked sunburst face timepiece—a gorgeous addition to keep you in line and on time.
