The organizational challenges brought on by the pandemic include the ever-evolving workplace and our workspaces. While most of us do not have much of a design say in the decor or set up of our office workspace, our in-home offices or work areas are another story altogether. As employees spend more and more time working from home, it’s become apparent that all manner of creature comforts matter just as much in the office as they do when relaxing at home. Below, we’ve included a round-up of some of the most-oft demanded items to upgrade your in-home office.
One of the most interesting aspects of working from home is learning how to dodge the everyday distractions. A stroll over to the kitchen to grab a snack or a drink can easily set you back 15 to 30 minutes. That’s why we love outfitting a home office with one of our undercounter units. From a Refrigerator, a Beverage Center, to a Wine Cabinet, or even our Undercounter Drawers, our units are designed to suit your needs. While a mixed-use design such as the Beverage Center satisfies multiple needs, a Wine Cabinet might be just the ticket if you have numerous Cocktails over Zoom meetings and/or like to look over the day’s work with a glass of wine before truly relaxing. For those that prefer the ease-of-use drawers provide in office-like settings, our Undercounter Drawers will fit right in. They’re perfect to store cold lunches, snacks, and a variety of beverages—from juices to spirits. With a choice of 54 unique color combinations, they’ll also work well with any design scheme.
When it comes to desks, there are no shortage of options. While we love the decked-out designs we’ve been seeing all over, one of our favorites caters to the minimalist aesthetic. Room & Board Business Interiors’ L-shaped Parsons Desk is not only perfect for any room corner but it also comes outfitted with all of the modern-day accoutrements—USB and power outlets. It also happens to be available in a choice of more than 20 table tops, including the white quartz shown here.
To add a little flair to your office set-up, we also perused a few of our favorite desk lamps available through AMEICO. The Mutatio Table Lamp by Le Klint features an adjustable head, a matte black body with a contrasting glossy white interior, and casts the perfect amount of illumination. Meanwhile, &Tradition’s aptly named Blown Table Lamp offers a bit more of an elegant edge with a quilted glass patterned globe set on a Nero Marquina marble base. A dimmer switch allows you to adjust the light and or/the mood. Lastly, also from &Tradition through Ameico, we love the Flowerpot Table Lamp. Designed by Verner Panton in the late 60s, the table lamp offers a bit of whimsy with the performance of a task lamp. It’s also available in beautiful shades, including the copper hue shown here.
As much as we might gravitate towards a variety of not-great-for-work chairs, when it comes to sitting in one spot for long hours, it’s all about comfortable, supportive seating. Stylex’s Dela Chairs feature a plywood shell and tubular steel frame that provides ergonomic support. They are also available in a variety of configurations (and fabric and finish choices) including as a task chair or as lounge and guest chairs with and without arms.
Who doesn’t love storage solutions? And when they come in compact, movable forms such as Room & Board Interiors’ color-happy Copenhagen File Cabinets, there is a lot to love. Fans of this collection can also supplement their desk situation with the above or a Copenhagen File Storage Bench with Cushion. Not big enough? Pick the elongated, more utilitarian version of the same file storage model, here.
Whatever your design choices are, focus on what will best benefit you and your productivity now and in the future. Happy shopping for your in-home office!
