Instagrammable, experiential spaces are all the rage in the design world. We’ve embraced the movement and the creativity that comes with it as its allowed us to showcase our designs in a very tangible, original manner—with the added bonus of creating beautiful real estate that lives both on and off the ‘gram.

Stephen Kenn Beks PortraitEnter Stephen Kenn Studio: a multidisciplinary Los Angeles-based practice founded in 2011 and led by designers Stephen Kenn and Beks Opperman. In the fall of 2019, the designers transformed a 1,600-square-foot space in a 1920s building in LA’s burgeoning Arts District into a gorgeous, loft-like apartment/showroom. The space, dubbed The Loft, offers visiting and overnight guests the chance to personally experience the furniture, prototypes, appliances, accessories, rugs and more, all designed by the studio and its partner brands.

As you can guess, True Residential appliances are featured throughout the kitchen, including our 42” Refrigerator, 24” Dual Zone Wine Cabinet, and our 24” Undercounter Refrigerator and Freezer—all outfitted in a striking matte black finish and paired with pewter hardware from our Build Your True collection.

The kitchen, which also features lighting from Allied Maker and walls clad in textural shades of Roman Clay paint from Portola Paints—beautifully reflects the building’s former furniture factory roots, infusing the space with a warm, industrial appeal. An aluminum and plated-nickel dining table and a custom bar featuring our undercounter units add the perfect, stylish touch for entertaining.

In addition to the spacious kitchen and dining room, the showroom’s L-shaped layout includes a lounge, a bedroom which opens up to the living room, a gym, and a full bathroom. Above, a small open-air meditation space is arrived at by a striking staircase made of wood beams and black metal. Guests can choose to enjoy every aspect of the space, from making dinner and cocktails, to lounging on all the furniture, or simply seeking quiet repose on the Hästens bed. It’s the perfect way to truly get to know the various brands and their products.

This December we are looking forward to one of their frequently held events—the Stephen Kenn Loft Designer Open House. For more information, or to inquire about availability for events, photo and/or video shoots, dinners, and/or rates and availability for overnight stays, please message the studio at [email protected]. We’d love for you to experience our appliances and the space for yourself! Design aficionados can also stay abreast of events on their website—from gallery shows, to cocktail events, and open houses, there is always something great going on at The Loft.
