There are so many events during the holiday season—from family dinners, to annual office holiday celebrations, to school parties, pageants, parades and more. But the most heartwarming ones tend to stem from impromptu seasonal baking sessions and/or indulging in cups of hot chocolate—at home with family and friends. One of our favorite ways to prepare for a spontaneous cookie-fashioning and/or hot chocolate get-together, is to outfit our Refrigerator Drawers with all the items you could possibly need. It’s an easy and entertaining way to turn a daily workhorse into a fun-meets-functional unit for the holidays.
To start, if hot chocolate is the route, we recommend setting up a drawer filled with all the necessary ingredients + all the fun extras. For the former, that equals out to dark or bittersweet chocolate chunks, cocoa powder, evaporated milk, sugar, heavy cream, milk, and salt (we love this recipe on Little Spice Jar, here). As for the latter, that’s where we can really get creative. Include a jar of cinnamon sticks that will not only add a bit of flavor but can be used to stir one’s drink, variously sized marshmallows, whipped cream, caramel and/or toffee bites, peppermint, and nutella, of course (Pro tip—line the edge of your cup in the addicting spread)! For cookies, we follow the same path, filling our drawers with all the staple ingredients needed to make a delicious batch of cookies while simultaneously setting up decorative stations within, each lined with sprinkles, candies, food coloring, icing, and more! And voila, you have a family activity for everyone to enjoy, waistline worries aside.
