Earlier this fall we had the opportunity to attend High Point Market—the largest biannual home furnishings trade show in the U.S.. While it’s not part of our typical circuit, we were excited to explore what’s new and noteworthy. A particular highlight was visiting NKBA | KBIS Design Council’s “The Tent.” Celebrating the collaborative event’s inaugural introduction to the market, The Tent took center stage in High Point’s Hamilton Wrenn North Neighborhood, offering a dynamic mix of interactive design discussions (including one led by Interior Design magazine’s famed Editor-in-Chief, Cindy Allen), art installations, culinary demonstrations, drinks, dancing and more. And since we’re always inspired by how our refrigerators (in every color) complement a variety of design styles, below we’ve rounded up some of the most exciting new introductions from High Point Market that pair perfectly with True designs.

The engaging discussions predictably touched on the state of the industry, with a riveting talk on design psychology which focused on how to design for the senses—expanding on how color perception and biophilia can significantly influence mental health and elevate moods. Led by psychologist Amber Dunford—currently a Style Director at Bed Bath & Beyond and Overstock.com—the conversation delved into how integrating psychology principles into interior design can foster spaces that promote safety, comfort, and overall wellbeing. Additionally, Caleb Anderson, one half of the storied Drake / Anderson firm, shared his insights on the importance of incorporating wellness into one’s personal life and professional practice.

The Tent also hosted a series of insightful talks that addressed the growing synergy between the residential, hospitality, and commercial industries. As the lines between these sectors continue to blur, cross-industry collaborations are becoming more prevalent. Additional talks by NKBA Design Council members Celerie Kemble, Thom Filicia, and Michael Smith Boyd also took place. It was a compelling showcase that highlighted how the NKBA’s commitment to residential design extends far beyond just kitchens and baths.
