Champagne

A true toast often calls for the best bottle of bubbly. Whether it’s an engagement, an anniversary, a graduation or any other celebratory occasion, most wine enthusiasts will cast votes for a bottle of Dom Pérignon to show that special someone he or she deserves the finest there is. The champagne has long been the go to choice for a luxurious toast. But how often will you find it in a private cellar collection?

Perhaps a more popular standby champagne to stock for those spontaneous celebrations is a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Brut. At about a third of the price of the average bottle of Dom, it’s one you might want to order by the case.

But many wine merchants might tell you blue is the new orange: a Joël Falmet Brut isn’t new to the scene, but it’s gaining popularity for those wanting to try something different. It’s 70% Pinot Noir and comes from the Côte des Bar region, the southernmost growing area in the Champagne appellation.

And if you simply wish to enjoy a nice glass of champagne here and there, with dinner, with friends or with brunch, we go over the top when we hear the pop of Gloria Ferrer Brut, and the classic Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut.

Decanter Magazine recommends chilling champagne for 10-15 minutes in a bucket of ice before serving, 20 minutes in the freezer or a few hours in the refrigerator. If you’re traveling with a bottle, try taking a previously stored wine sleeve from the freezer for the ride. Alternatively, store indefinitely in the TRUE 30″ Wine Column, coming in the summer of 2017!
